Our Position
Australian Paper adheres to the "reduce, reuse, recycle" principle. We understand that this is not just about preserving valuable resources to better achieve an ecological balance for future generations but also about reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill.

Australian Paper produces the largest range of fine papers with recycled content in the Asia Pacific region. Our major products with recycled content are Reflex 50% Recycled, Postspeed and a variety of recycled printing papers.

To maximise the use of raw materials and minimise environmental impacts, Australian Paper recovers fibre from its own paper manufacturing waste streams. In addition, Australian Paper also uses external waste streams such as printer and converter waste, office waste and kerbside collections.

Our Performance
Australian Paper uses pre and post-consumer waste to produce a variety of communication papers and packaging papers. Other recycling activities within our operations include office papers, batteries, ink cartridges, reel cores, non-hazardous waste products, ferrous metals, hydrocarbons and raw material containers.

Over 70,000 tonnes of waste packaging material and papers are recycled at Australian Paper's operations each year.

Clarifier waste or the paper fibre and fillers recovered from Shoalhaven Mill's Effluent plant is used by local farmers as a soil conditioning material and compost constituent. In Tasmania, this waste source is being trialed for use as a bio-fuel.

At Maryvale Mill, about 35,000 tonnes of pine park is stripped from pine logs and supplied to the nursery industry for use as pine mulch, compost and potting mix. This in turn helps maximise our water resources by reducing evaporating losses.
